ooo...someone removed me as their friend on friendster. that's kind of funny.

::update
actually, she's disappeared from friendster altogether. how odd...

for future reference, morons:

adobe (as in acrobat, photoshop, illustrator, etc.) IS NOT pronounced uh-dobe.

joules (as in the measure of energy) IS NOT pronounced the same way as jowls.

it IS NOT acceptable to say "isp service provider".

this basically sums up my thoughts during lunch today...

i know so many white people.
i mean, where do i start?
the trouble with white people
is you can't tell them apart.

does the fact that i downloaded this pattern maker make me a dork?

no, but the fact that i already printed out two patterns and am thinking of going to the craft store this weekend to get the floss and material to make one of them does.

::update (to further support my claim to dork-ness)
i'm currently listening to wanna be startin' something from michael jackson's thriller.

i finished the first of my little cross stitch projects. it's a small christmas card, and it actually came out rather well...so long as you don't check out the back, hehe. i've just started a second small project (a label for a dill plant), so i'm hoping to have that finished by the time we leave for san diego.

since we're going to be on a plane for about 8 hours total for this trip, and i've been moving pretty quickly with this cross stitch thing, i'm wondering if i should get another pattern to start, or if the one i bought will keep me busy enough. i think it's 7 by 11...or something like that. hmmm...i may just have to stop at a craft store to see if i can get anything that's on sale.

so, i'm minding my own business, searching around for hair styles for nadine, when what do i happen upon but this wonderful little article. i swear, some people are just out of their frickin' minds.

speaking of which: our upstairs neighbors are some of the most moronic white trash (i know, that's redundant.) in the world...or at least in chicago. i mean, you would think that grown individuals would be able to take a shower without getting a puddle of water (that proceeds to leak through their floor, through our ceiling, and onto our heads) EVERY SINGLE TIME.

also, why would someone ask you to do something that you were expressly told (by two people, including that person) not to do, and argue with you when you explain why you shouldn't do it?

what is wrong with people?

this past weekend, i bought a few cross-stitch things at hobby lobby. cross-stitch, you say? yeah, i know, but i need something to do on the too-long-for-me plane ride to san diego next week. actually, i'm almost finished with the small one i started yesterday, so that's pretty cool.

gotta love the grid.

how fucking fantabulous...

ok, so i got a 5% pay increase. good for me. it was supposed to start on june 1st, so, on this paycheck, i got a tiny bit of retro pay. however...

i also got charged for the taxable value of my tuition benefit, all $1,192.33 of it. (in case you're wondering, that isn't quite what i actually make, but it's dangerously close.) and you know what that means...

i just got the shit kicked out of me in taxes. big time. i mean it. my total taxes for this pay period are $930.76. what are they usually? well, last pay period they were $361.99. so, yeah...almost three times as much in taxes. beautiful.

so, my actual take-home pay for this paycheck is actually over $150 less than what i've been making.

...and that was only for one class. i can't wait to get hammered for two classes next quarter. maybe i'll end up owing money.

if i could find one "good thing", as martha would say, about this situation, it would have to be that at least it isn't going to happen every pay period.

update: yeah, that "good thing"? not true. i'm going to be in this situation for a total of three pay periods. i guess i'd better monitor the logistics of my money very carefully for the next month, eh?

now, i'm thinking that dean doesn't go far enough. how quickly i change my mind, eh? i don't agree with everything that dennis kucinich says, but...at least he's not tempering his opinions like dean seems to do sometimes. what's a progressive to do?

i got a little thing from howard dean asking for a contribution. now, he is seriously the only candidate i've been able to agree with 100%, so i've been thinking of giving something. however, this quote from his request for support cinched it:

i believe president bush is wrong on almost every issue from the unending tax cuts to abortion rights to the environment and the list goes on.

now, where's my checkbook...

you know all hope for any kind of standardized sizing is lost when i end up buying something in a 36D from victoria's secret.

around the time that (really bad) movie, daredevil came out, jennifer garner and ben affleck kept being asked what kind of superpower they would want to have. at the time, bush was being a freak (as usual), so i thought that being able to kill people and get away with it would be the best superpower. quite a bit of time has gone by, and i still think that that would be best superpower to have. in fact, the more situations i'm placed in, the more i'm certain that this superpower is the best option.

today's events further reinforced this opinion.

as a bit of an update to the previous post...

i did end up putting together a beta site for a mcauley '97 rumors page. it's really, really rough right now, but it's moving along.

i really need to learn javascript...

and css...

and quite a few other things...

i've just noticed that most of my more recent messages are one-liners, or close-to-one-liners. i've been in a bit of a funk when it comes to, well, everything lately...

i haven't been keeping up with what's going on in the world, which is really not like me at all.

i'm not enjoying my database class at all, which is odd, because i can usually find something good in pretty much any class.

i feel like the summer just got away from me because, suddenly, it's august and i haven't really done anything since school got out in june. i'm hoping that going to the wisconsin state fair this week and san diego in september will help break me out of my routine.

i've felt so uncreative lately, that i didn't even do the 26 things project, even though i have pictures for most of it. i'm hoping that the mini-reunion that i went to on friday (actually, 5 of us '97 mcauley girls going to dinner) will spark at least some creativity by way of a possible mcauley alumni rumors page. i wonder if there are any legal issues with that...

so, those are my current "issues", if you will. i think that if i do anything even slightly creative, i'll be able to move out of this rather drab headspace. wish me luck...
